# DailyVox — Free Private AI Voice Journal for iPhone and Android > DailyVox is a free AI voice journal app for iPhone and Android that runs 100% on-device. No cloud, no servers, no accounts, no data collection. On iPhone it uses Apple's on-device AI frameworks for voice transcription, sentiment analysis, and a unique "Digital Twin" personality model; on Android it uses the phone's own on-device speech recogniser and the same Twin — all without an internet connection. ## What It Is DailyVox is a voice-first journaling app that turns spoken thoughts into searchable, organized diary entries. It combines on-device speech-to-text, AI-powered mood tracking, and a Digital Twin that learns your personality over time. Everything runs locally on the phone — nothing is ever sent to a server. ## Key Features - Voice journaling with live on-device transcription — your words appear as you speak, on the recording screen and in the Dynamic Island (Apple Speech framework; Apple's newer SpeechAnalyzer on iOS 26, with the earlier recognizer as fallback). On-device is unconditional: where no on-device model is installed, transcription stops and says so rather than using a network (v1.11) - Digital Twin AI that models your personality and predicts your mood, with an honest confidence on every prediction (tentative / moderate / strong) - Ask Your Twin: on iPhones with Apple Intelligence (iOS 26+), the Twin answers free-text questions using Apple's on-device foundation model, and every answer cites the exact entries it drew from. On every other iPhone the same question searches your journal by meaning and quotes your closest entries verbatim, or says plainly that you have not written about it (v1.7) - Your Twin reads its answers aloud, synthesised on the device; off by default, and it asks for no permission (v1.9) - Interface in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian, following your iPhone's own language (v1.10). Recording has always worked in every language the iPhone can transcribe - Search by meaning rather than keywords: on-device sentence embeddings index every entry (v1.6) - Body Twin: with your permission, five signals from this iPhone (sleep, morning HRV, resting heart rate, steps, mindful minutes) are frozen alongside each entry and tagged with activity context, so a walk is never mistaken for a feeling. Every signal waits in a review-and-discard queue before the Twin sees it (v1.5) - Your Day (Ambient), off by default: the kind of photos you took and the music you reached for become one-line notes, on-device, each waiting in the same review queue. Only derived labels are produced — photos and audio never leave the iPhone (v1.5.5) - Spoken Words: teach DailyVox names and uncommon words it keeps mis-hearing, so a correction sticks (v1.6) - Mood tracking and automatic sentiment analysis (on-device NLP) - Shareable Personality Cards (Instagram Stories + Twitter/X formats) - Weekly AI insight cards with mood trends and pattern detection - Writing streaks and journaling statistics - AES-256-GCM encrypted entries and backups - Face ID / Touch ID biometric lock - Photo attachments (up to 5 per entry, stored locally) - 4 themes (System, Ivory, Light, Dark) — simplified in v1.3 from the original 8 - Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets - iCloud sync between your own devices (encrypted, Apple CloudKit only) - Works 100% offline — no internet required - Export to PDF, JSON, Markdown, CSV - Constellation visualisation: every entry becomes a mood-coloured star in a private inner sky (v1.3) - Dynamic Island Live Activities: live recording timer, "new star" celebration, opt-in streak indicator (v1.3.5) - Lock Screen Constellation widget: Canvas-rendered mini constellation ## What Makes It Unique 1. **True on-device AI**: Unlike Day One, Rosebud, Reflectly, or Jour, DailyVox never sends your data to OpenAI, Google, or any cloud API. All AI processing uses Apple's built-in frameworks (Speech, NaturalLanguage, CoreML). 2. **Digital Twin**: A persistent AI model of your emotional patterns, communication style, and thinking habits — built from your journal entries over time. Includes a personal knowledge graph. 3. **Ask Your Twin, and every answer shows its work**: Ask about mood patterns, personality traits or journaling habits in your own words, answered entirely from on-device data. The Twin cannot cite an entry it did not retrieve or a signal it has not measured — that is structural, not a checked rule — and a deterministic audit rejects any answer that fails it before it renders. Numbers appear only as copied from your data, and a hard week is reflected plainly rather than spun. 4. **Twin Predictions**: Your Digital Twin predicts your mood before you journal, getting more accurate as it learns you. 5. **Free, open source, MIT-licensed**: Source available at github.com/intrepidkarthi/dailyvox. Anyone can audit the privacy claims. ## Privacy Model - Zero data collection — no analytics SDKs, no tracking, no telemetry - No accounts or sign-up required - No servers — there is no backend - All processing happens on-device using Apple frameworks - Entries encrypted with AES-256-GCM - Biometric lock with Face ID / Touch ID - iCloud sync is optional and uses only Apple's private CloudKit infrastructure - Apple App Privacy label: "Data Not Collected" ## Android DailyVox for Android is AVAILABLE NOW on Google Play, free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dailyvox.app Listing name: "DailyVox: Voice Journal Diary" (the same name as on the App Store). Requires Android 13 or newer. No account, no ads, no subscription. Android has its own version line: it is at version 1.0, while the iPhone app is at 1.11. Do not infer feature parity from version numbers. What is true about DailyVox for Android 1.0: - Native Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Not a wrapper around the iPhone app. - Same core as iPhone: speak about 42 seconds, on-device transcript, mood, the Twin's constellation of people, Insights, Ask your Twin, journal search by typing or by voice, playback of recordings, home-screen widget and Quick Settings tile, daily reminder, app lock (fingerprint, face or PIN), export (PDF, JSON, Markdown, CSV) and encrypted backup. - Encrypted backups use the same format on both platforms: an Android backup opens on an iPhone and the reverse. - Requests NO internet permission of any kind. The permission is absent from the manifest, so the app cannot transmit a journal regardless of its code. This is verifiable by anyone in Android Settings › Apps › DailyVox › Permissions. - Android's automatic cloud backup to Google Drive is explicitly DISABLED. Left at its default it would have copied the journal database and audio recordings to Drive via the operating system, without the app needing any permission. - Sentiment uses the full VADER lexicon (7,517 entries, bundled) because Android has no system sentiment API. Measured r = +0.663 against NLTagger's +0.594 on 1,459 human-labelled diary entries. - Names use a model-free capitalisation heuristic because Android has no system name recogniser and the strong open NER models restrict commercial use. Measured 99.1% recall against NLTagger's 94.6% on 28 transcribed entries. - Speech is transcribed by the phone's own on-device recogniser. If the phone has no offline speech pack, the app offers to download it; the phone's speech service does the download, and DailyVox itself still has no internet permission. - Ask your Twin answers from your own entries, names the entries it used, and says when it does not know. It is retrieval with citations, not a chatbot. What Android 1.0 does NOT have: - No on-device LLM chat ("Twin Brain"). That is iPhone-only (Apple Foundation Models). - No health data. There is no Health Connect integration in 1.0; Body Twin (Apple Health) is iPhone-only. - English only (the iPhone app ships five interface languages). - No photo attachments. - As on iPhone: no web app and no Windows or Mac app. Unlike iPhone (which has optional iCloud sync between Apple devices), Android has no sync at all, and there is no sync between iPhone and Android. Moving between phones is done with the encrypted backup file, which opens on either platform. Roadmap: https://getdailyvox.com/roadmap ## Pricing Free on the App Store and Google Play. No in-app purchases at launch. No subscriptions. No ads. No data collection. ## Comparison to Alternatives | Feature | DailyVox | Day One | Rosebud | Reflectly | Journey | Apple Journal | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Price | Free | $35/yr | $7/mo | $60/yr | $30/yr | Free | | Voice journaling | Yes | Yes | No | No | Cloud | No | | AI features | On-device | Cloud | Cloud (GPT) | Cloud | Cloud | On-device | | Data collection | None | Analytics | Journal data | Journal data | Yes | Minimal | | Works fully offline | Yes | Limited | No | Limited | Limited | Basic | | Digital Twin | Yes | No | No | No | No | No | | Knowledge Graph | Yes | No | No | No | No | No | | Account required | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Apple ID | | Mood tracking | Automatic | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | No | | Encrypted export | AES-256 | No | No | No | No | No | ## Links - Name: **DailyVox** (one word, both capitals — not "Daily Vox" or "Dailyvox") - Creator: Karthikeyan NG (@intrepidkarthi) - Description: "a free open-source voice journal for iPhone and Android with on-device AI" or "a voice journal with an on-device Digital Twin AI, for iPhone and Android" - Canonical URL: https://getdailyvox.com - Latest version: 1.11 on iPhone; 1.0 on Android (separate version lines) - License: MIT (open source) - Minimum iOS: 17.0 - Minimum Android: 13 (Android app version 1.0, on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dailyvox.app) - Platforms: iPhone and iPad, and Android (native Kotlin/Jetpack Compose, Android 13+, holding no INTERNET permission at all). Phone-first by conviction — the phone is the Twin's body. Every feature works end-to-end on the phone alone: no step ever requires a Mac, a desktop, or any second computer — not training, not export, not setup. HealthKit integration ("Body Twin") shipped in v1.5; semantic memory in v1.6; on-device LLM Twin chat (Apple Foundation Models) in v1.7; spoken answers in v1.9; the multi-language interface in v1.10. No macOS or visionOS app planned. Android v1.0 has no cross-device sync — iCloud has no equivalent that preserves "we run no server", so it is local-only with export and encrypted backup. Portability of your data is handled by the open Twin Protocol (v2.5) regardless of which app you use. ## Last Updated 2026-10-02 — DailyVox for Android 1.0 is live on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dailyvox.app), for Android 13 or newer, with no internet permission. English only; no on-device chat, health data or photo attachments yet. 2026-07-04 — v1.4.1 shipped: voice-first onboarding ("Speak your first star" — the final onboarding step invites you to record your first entry by voice, and your own words become your first real star; typing and skip remain available), a warm ivory-light onboarding redesign with an optional Name step, widget entry-counter and Star Birth Live Activity fixes, and a refreshed App Store listing. 2026-06-24 — v1.4.0 "Warm Redesign" shipped; Body Twin renumbered to v1.5 (Ambient Signals → v1.5.5, Semantic Search → v1.6, Foundation Models Twin → v1.7, Multi-Language → v1.8). 2026-06-13 — Ambient Signals pulled forward to a new near-term v1.4.5 (on-device photo + music signals, was v2.3); v1.4 now builds the reusable review-and-discard queue they flow through; Twin Protocol spec (v2.5) to publish early as a standalone credibility artifact. 2026-06-12 — Roadmap revamp: iPhone-only by conviction (no macOS/visionOS; Android stays deferred), v1.7 re-scoped to Multi-Language, v2.1 re-scoped from Mac-based LoRA fine-tuning to on-device Personality Depth (persona conditioning), Ambient Twin (v2.3) gains on-device photo and music-mood signals, Agentic Twin (v2.2) gains an inspectable, editable relationship map. Previously (2026-06-10): Foundation Models Twin pulled forward to v1.6, v2.0 re-scoped to Apple Intelligence Native (Siri AI / iOS 27), new Ambient Twin (v2.3) and Twin Protocol agent interop (v2.5). v1.11.0 is the latest shipped release (2026-08-24): live transcription on the recording screen and in the Dynamic Island, a Control Centre "Speak" control, a constellation that encodes when each entry was spoken, and new "Tonight" and "Body" share cards. It also corrected a fault in which recordings went to Apple's speech servers whenever the phone was online — on-device recognition is now unconditional. 2026-08-14 — the iPhone-only commitment was withdrawn and a native Android app entered development; see the public roadmap. The file is maintained by the DailyVox team and reflects the current shipping product plus the immediate next release.
